Mecklenburg County property search by owner

POLARIS 3G: the one tool that does most of it
Unlike counties that split the map and the tax database into separate sites, Mecklenburg puts nearly everything in POLARIS 3G. An owner-name search lists the parcels. Clicking a parcel gets the tax card, the assessed value, the last sale, and a direct link to the recorded deed image at the Register of Deeds. For recorded financing, the deed of trust, you still go to the Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds and search the grantor/grantee index by name.
Charlotte commercial property: the LLC wall
Charlotte is a banking town and its commercial real estate is held accordingly: single-purpose LLCs, layered holding companies, and out-of-state mailing addresses are the norm on uptown and South End parcels. POLARIS tells you the entity on title. The people behind it are in the NC Secretary of State business registry, where annual reports list company officials. The recorded deed of trust confirms the entity and often a human signer. That chain, POLARIS, then Secretary of State, then Register of Deeds, is the full manual method.
Searching by owner: practical tips
- Entity names must be close to exact. Try the abbreviated and spelled-out forms: "ST" and "Street," "&" and "AND."
- One owner often means many entities. A Charlotte investor with ten buildings may hold them in ten LLCs with a shared mailing address. Search the mailing address to group them.
- Check the sale date against the deed. A recent transfer may not have reached the tax roll yet.
Key facts
